Four new school ceremonies scheduled

Construction is complete and the hallways at four new Killeen ISD elementary schools await the sounds of children, but first, the district and community will dedicate the brand-new campuses.
Dedication ceremonies are scheduled in morning and afternoon timeslots on successive Sundays in the middle of August. The public is welcome to attend.
The schedule begins with an 11 a.m. dedication ceremony Sunday, August 8 at Killeen Elementary School.
At 3 p.m. Sunday, August 8, Pershing Park Elementary School will host its opening dedication ceremony.
The following week, Pat Carney Elementary School hosts an 11 a.m. dedication ceremony on Sunday, August 15.

Clifton Park Elementary School hosts the final dedication ceremony at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 15.
Across Killeen ISD, the first day of school is Monday, August 16.
Three of the new elementary schools consolidate campuses that have closed across the central part of Killeen. All four of the new schools are connected to the 2018 KISD bond election.
Killeen Elementary School, located at 1608 East Rancier Avenue, consolidates the former West Ward and East Ward elementary schools.
Pershing Park Elementary School, located at 1500 West Central Texas Expressway, consolidates the former Pershing Park and Sugar Loaf elementary schools.
Unlike the others, the new Pershing Park opened in January with students from the old school of the same name. This school year begins its operation as a consolidated campus.
Pat Carney Elementary School, at 5501 Azura Way, is a new school serving a rapidly growing new subdivision near the airport in west Killeen.
Clifton Park Elementary School, at 1801 South Second Street consolidates the former Clifton Park and Bellaire elementary schools.
The four dedication ceremonies mark long periods of anticipation for principals, teachers and other campus staff, as well as parents and students.
Last spring, the district unveiled new mascots - the Carney Cubs, Clifton Park Jaguars, Pershing Park Pumas and Killeen Joeys.
Each closing school hosted ceremonies marking decades of service to the community.
West Ward marked 68 years of service. Its Joey mascot links it to the Killeen Kangaroos, the nearby high school continuing its own massive renovation and addition project.
Bellaire celebrated 55 years of service. Clifton Park celebrated 57 years. Sugar Loaf celebrated 56 years. Pershing Park closed after 58 years.
