Killeen ISD remains committed to the health and safety of all students, staff, and families. As a part of our continued mitigation efforts, the district is launching a community-wide educational campaign to encourage everyone to take the appropriate steps to keep our schools open.

The “We Can Do This” campaign reinforces the importance of handwashing, covering your cough, wearing a mask, and keeping schools open through informational flyers, Facebook profile picture frames, KISD-TV ads, and videos to communicate good health guidelines.

KISD Board members, Superintendent Dr. John Craft, and High School Athletic Coordinators recorded public service announcements stressing the important role that everyone plays in achieving our goal.

As a part of the requirements from TEA, Killeen ISD will notify parents and staff via email of COVID-19 positive cases on their campus or department beginning Monday, August 23. The district continues to monitor COVID-19 cases daily and remains in contact with the Bell County Health District.

On Tuesday night, the Board of Trustees will consider a resolution to provide fully vaccinated KISD employees who contract COVID-19 up to 10 days of additional leave, including those who per doctor’s orders are unable to receive the vaccine. They will also consider hiring a Chief Medical Officer to provide support to the district’s nursing staff, COVID-19 mitigation plan, campus and department thresholds, and the facilitation of general health services across the district.

There are numerous opportunities for Killeen-area residents to receive a COVID-19 vaccine and the City of Killeen is launching a campaign to make the public aware. Residents can text their zip code to “GETVAX” at 438829 to receive a list of vaccine locations as well as information about receiving a ride and free childcare. The City of Killeen is also offering free testing and vaccines at the Killeen Special Events Center from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 26 through Saturday, August 28.

Killeen ISD provides information about the COVID-19 vaccine and testing sites at the following link: www.killeenisd.org/COVID19_vaccine.

The district encourages the community to get vaccinated, self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms, and practice personal responsibility as staff and students return to schools together. Together, we can do this.
