To recognize the National School Lunch Program, serving 30 million children in the U.S. each day, Killeen ISD schools will celebrate National School Lunch Week from October 14-18, 2019. The theme, “Save The Day With A Healthy School Lunch,” spotlights how today’s school cafeterias are serving up healthy menu items that introduce students to new menu options.

National School Lunch Week will highlight the nutritious foods available daily at Killeen ISD schools. Each time a student consumes a lunch meal during NSLW, they have a chance to win the "Hero of the Week" grand-prize.  There will be one grand-prize winner per school, winners will be announced on October 21, 2019.

“Food provides the fuel for students to learn to their maximum potential. Our mission is to provide students the opportunity to consume fruits and vegetables, whole grains and milk, and meet federal nutrition standards,” said Evan Leach, Director of School Nutrition.  “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the benefits of our lunch program and the appealing variety of choices in the cafeteria.”

At the October 8th Board of Trustees Meeting, a Board Resolution was signed to observe October 14-18, 2019 as National School Lunch Week in Killeen ISD. Click here to view the Board Resolution.
