Revised Early Out Schedule: Bad Weather Make-up

Dear Killeen ISD Parents and Employees,

Last week, Killeen ISD was closed to students and staff for two days due to the freezing rain and dangerous road conditions.

The Texas Education Agency requires students receive 75,600 minutes of instruction; we are fortunate that our current academic calendar was created with additional minutes built into our regular school days to allow for some flexibility. We will not have to make up the two full school days due to the “banked minutes,” but rather we will extend a previously designated Early Out on March 11, 2022, by 30 minutes to meet the TEA requirement. This means students will be released 90 minutes early, instead of the normal two hours, on the Friday before Spring Break. We have provided an adjusted bell schedule for Friday, March 11, 2022, for you to view/download below.

As previously stated, employees will not be negatively impacted or required to make up missed days of work due to the unplanned weather closures.
In the event of another weather-related event, there are still bad weather make up days in our calendar which could be utilized as make-up days if needed.

Thank you for supporting the continuity of instruction and remaining flexible this school year.
