KISD Career Center DECA Students Advance to State Competition

Thirteen talented students from the Killeen ISD Career Center’s DECA program have earned a coveted spot at the Texas DECA State Competition, following a stellar performance at the District V contest held in Round Rock on Saturday. Competing against peers from 36 high schools and among 3,200 total participants, the KISD Career Center team demonstrated excellence and preparation, cementing their place as one of the leading Career and Technical Education student organizations in the district.
DECA Advisor Lorre Brock praised the students for their dedication, resilience, and growth throughout the process. “As we head into competitions, I am continuously inspired by the dedication and hard work my students pour into preparing for DECA,” said Brock. “While it’s natural to feel nervous, especially when presenting in front of others for the first time, I remind my students that their preparation, passion, and determination will shine through. I couldn’t be more proud of their growth and courage—they truly embody what it means to rise to the challenge.”
Outstanding Projects and Student Spotlights
Students competed in a variety of events, from Marketing Management Team Decision-Making to Professional Selling and Consulting. Among the standout winners was Kylee Breger, a KCC DECA Chapter Officer, who advanced in the Project Management Community Awareness category alongside her teammates Carlos Diaz Torres and Gabriella Kenworthy. Their project, "Building Awareness: Addressing Drug-Related Issues in Our Community," focused on raising awareness about drug-related issues in Killeen, promoting a safer and healthier community.
“I chose this project because I’m passionate about helping my community become a safer place for everyone,” said Breger. “I’m so happy that we’ve advanced to state, as it gives us the opportunity to continue bringing awareness to this important issue. I’m really excited to experience DECA competition and can’t wait to showcase our project at state!”
Her teammate Carlos Diaz Torres echoed this sentiment, highlighting the personal growth the project inspired. “Advancing to state is an incredible milestone. While I know it will take immense dedication, I’m ready to rise to the challenge. This is our chance to show how much we care about making a meaningful difference in the Killeen community by educating and inspiring residents to take action.”
