Ellison seniors Ethan Carranza and D'Angeleigh Dombkowski won their respective Class 5A-6A division races in the Hewitt Midway Kiwanis Cross Country Invitational last Thursday morning, Sept. 5, at the Heart of Texas Soccer Complex. Carranza, a state qualifier last year, finished the 3-mile run in 15 minutes, 4.3 seconds. Dombkowski clocked 19:10.3 for the win.
The Eagles, who also had Andy Harper place seventh, finished second in the team standings. Other runners for the Ellison boys were: Mike Rodriguez-Quintana (11th), Isaiah Holloway (16th), Justin Rodriguez-Quintana (17th), Kobe Ellis (22nd) and Quintin Durham (27th). The top-five finishers from each team are counted toward the final score.
For the Lady Eagles, Aubree Jones (16th), Elizabeth Kinsey (28th), Lakia Hatch (34th), Abby Najera (40th), Lillianna Lecounte (42nd) and Isabella Phillips (47th) completed the course.
Also in action was Chaparral, which entered the Canyon Cougar Invitational in Seguin on Friday, Sept. 6.
The Bobcats were paced by Cristian Vasquez, who placed 13th (18:19.56), while Fayija Smith (24th, 22:05.73) had the top time for the Lady Bobcats.
Three days of cross country concluded Saturday, Sept. 7, with Shoemaker and Killeen at the Cedar Park Invitational.
Alexander Roberts cracked the top 20 on the dot with a time of 16:54 to pace the Grey Wolves. Christian Matta was Killeen’s top finisher.
The Lady Grey Wolves were led by Cameron Roberts, who placed 51st out of 152 runners with a time of 21.55.
More races are on the schedule this week as Chaparral, Ellison, Harker Heights and Shoemaker travel up Interstate 35 for the Waco H.O.T Invitational on Wednesday. Killeen is entered into the Lovejoy Fall Festival meet Saturday in McKinney.
