On a day of heavy lifting, three from Killeen ISD hoisted enough iron to advance to the Texas High School Powerlifting Association state meet.
At the Region II Division I meet Saturday in Joshua, Ellison’s Brayden LeCompte and Justus Haupricht-Kehl were runners-up in their weight classes to land spots at state while Chaparral’s Caidyn Wood qualified through is combined total across three lifting disciplines.
LeCompte, competing in the 220-pound class, recorded a 590-pound squat, 375-pound bench press and 630-pound deadlift for a silver-winning 1,595-pound total.
In the 242-pound class, Haupricht-Kehl delivered a 640-pound squat, 335-pound bench press and 590-pound deadlift for a 1,565 total and second place.
Wood’s qualifying-total of 1,440 pounds (585 squat, 375 bench, 480 deadlift) put him sixth in the 198-pound class.
Killeen ISD other regional competitors Saturday were Harker Heights’ Isaac Compaore; James Kearney; Marvin Hatcher; Roydell Kennedy, Shoemaker’s Mark Degano and Chaparral’s Matthew Francis.
The THSPA state meet is scheduled for Saturday, March 22 at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.
