A Legacy of Impact: Killeen ISD Celebrates its 2025 Retirees

Retirement BanquetIn a school district as diverse and dynamic as Killeen ISD, the end of the academic year often brings celebration of achievements, students, and of progress. Each spring also makes a moment of reflection to honor those who have shaped the culture and the classrooms.

This year, a cross-section of KISD employees including teachers, campus leaders, custodians, mechanics, tech specialists, counselors and others gathered for a banquet in their honor. It was a moment to acknowledge careers built on patience, consistency, and an unwavering commitment to students.

The evening opened with a moving performance of “Lean on Me” by Harker Height High School’s Pitch Black choir – a fitting anthem for a group that has spent decades supporting each other.  Retirement Banquet 2

Superintendent Dr. Jo Ann Fey delivered opening remarks, emphasizing KISD’s mission, the kids. She invited attendees to stand and sit down as she called out milestones starting with 5 years and continuing until there was only one left standing.

Retirement BanquetKilleen High School teacher, Richard Romeo has dedicated his life to public education across the world through teaching and coaching and is retiring after 48 remarkable years.

This year’s banquet also included student volunteers from Harker Heights High School’s baseball team and Ellison High School’s basketball team who escorted retirees into the event.

During dinner, Shoemaker High School’s Caiden Douchand gave a musical performance, leading the crowd in Frank Sinatra’s “My Way”.

The theme of commitment, dedication, and legacy continued through the evening. A reflection on the everyday moments of offering a steady encouragement to a student, teaching tough lessons, sharing compassion and commitment in every hallway, bus route, and cafeteria line.

As each retiree was recognized and presented with a commemorative plaque, applause filled the room not just for the time they gave, but for the impact they leave behind.

To the Killeen ISD staff members who are beginning the next chapter of their lives and who have given their careers to serve students, family, and the community, your hard work and dedication is applauded and celebrated.

May you be reminded of the difference you have made in the lives of those around you. Thank you for your service in education!
