More than 25 Killeen ISD senior athletes, trainers and managers across three sports earned Academic All-State recognition from the Texas High School Coaches Association.
“We understand that students’ performance in the classroom can sometimes be difficult to manage while participating in athletics, but their hard work has not gone unnoticed,” the THSCA notes on its website. “We applaud them for their commitment and dedication to perform with the highest of excellence academically and on the field or court.”
To be nominated by a head coach who is a member of the THSCA for Academic All-State, students “must be seniors, in good standing with the team, be of good moral character and have an overall GPA of 92 or above –– including courses completed from the ninth through 11th grades and courses so far completed as a 12th-grader.”
The THSCA then considers each students’ GPA, test scores and class rank and delegates points toward four categories: elite, first team, second team and honorable mention.
