ECHS Transportation Plan

Dear Parents/Guardians of KISD Early College High School Students,
Beginning with the 2023-2024 school year, Killeen ISD is implementing a transportation plan which may impact your KISD Early College High School student(s). This plan will greatly reduce the amount of time your student spends on a school bus and aligns transportation methods for all students participating in programs with Central Texas College. Our KISD Early College High School is one of our Central Texas College programs.
Exactly what is changing?
Students will no longer be picked up from their neighborhood and transported directly to CTC and Early College High School.
Students that live more than two miles from their zoned high school campus will have the opportunity to be picked up at a designated neighborhood bus stop and taken to their zoned high school. Once at their zoned campus, the student will catch the KISD-CTC bus.
If you live within a two-mile radius of the zoned high school campus, your student will need to be dropped off at the zoned high school campus to catch the KISD-CTC bus. See the attached flyers for more information.
All students will catch a bus to the CTC and KISD Early College Campus from their zoned high school campus. For example, if you live in the attendance zone for Harker Heights High School, your student will catch the KISD-CTC bus at Harker Heights High School to attend Early College High School.
Note: Due to time and distance limitations, students who reside on Fort Cavazos will continue to ride the bus to Early College High School or Central Texas College.
This transportation plan of shuttling students from one campus to another has been successfully implemented for several years for other KISD-CTC programs, the KISD Fire Academy, and the KISD Career Center.
How will my student be impacted?
Students will spend less time on the bus each day. Bus routes will pick up later in the morning and drop off earlier in the evening when compared to last year’s bus routes.
Why is this change happening?
The change to our transportation plan will allow us to better serve all students and provide equitable transportation plans across all programs.
How will I be notified about my student’s transportation plan?
The KISD Transportation department will send email notification to the primary parent/guardian email address on file in our student information system on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.
How do I find what high school zone I reside in?
You can search your address on our website, https://www.killeenisd.org/attendance_zones, to find your zoned high school campus.
Who do I contact with specific questions regarding my student’s plan for transportation?
You may call the KISD Transportation team at (254) 336-0138 to ask questions specifically about your student’s plan for transportation.
What if my student drives?
This information will not impact your student if they drive themselves to CTC or ECHS.
We are here to answer your questions and support your student with navigating this updated transportation plan.
Sincerely,
Nancy Patterson
