The atmosphere surrounding the track at Shoemaker High School was full of cheers and laughter as students walked and ran around the track on Friday morning.
In honor of April being Autism Awareness Month, students, staff, and volunteers from the high school and Hay Branch Elementary walked together outside of Shoemaker High School to bring awareness to autism.
Shoemaker's At-Risk Aide, Letha Reeves, who organizes the event each year, was beaming with pride as she addressed the crowd, commending everyone for their participation in the walk.
She mentioned that the event has grown in size every year, and she was thrilled with the overwhelming turnout.
Adding to the lively atmosphere, the Shoemaker cheerleaders, students, and coaches showed their unwavering support by cheering on the participants as they completed the mile-long walk together.
The colorful pompoms and spirited chants added an extra layer of excitement to the event, creating an uplifting environment.
As the event came to a close, the smiles on the faces of the participants spoke volumes about the success of the Autism Awareness Walk at Shoemaker High School.
It was a day filled with joy, laughter and a shared commitment to promoting understanding and acceptance of autism.
Shoemaker High School will host its annual Special Angels Prom on May 13 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
