In an exhilarating showcase of talent and determination, Seventeen Killeen ISD Special Olympic Athletes left their mark at the recent Special Olympics Texas State Games held at Morgan's Wonderland in San Antonio from May 18-20.
Representing KISD high schools, these exceptional athletes went head-to-head with over 1,500 participants from various Special Olympic programs across the state. The event provided a unique opportunity for athletes of all ages to meet, interact, and revel in the spirit of competition and camaraderie.
These remarkable individuals participated in a range of thrilling events, including the 200-meter run, 100-meter run, 4x100 relay, shot put, running and standing long jump, wheelchair race, and tennis ball throw. The enthusiasm was palpable, as Johnathan Peterson from Harker Heights confidently declared, "I'm going to win," and Darrian Huggins from Shoemaker exclaimed, "I got this, coach; I'm ready."
The Killeen ISD Dream Team emerged victorious from the state games, earning a remarkable tally of over 30 medals, with several first-place finishes. Their exceptional performance is a testament to the unwavering support and dedication of the coaches, volunteers, parents, and high schools who made this season a resounding success.
Camren Hester from Shoemaker said to Coach Lanxon after winning gold in the 100 meters, “Thank you coach for bringing me to the track and supporting me, this is fun!”
We applaud these exceptional athletes for exemplifying outstanding sportsmanship, competing at the highest level, and showcasing the very best that KISD has to offer. Their achievements inspire us all.
