Killeen ISD is excited to announce the pilot launch of a new online communication tool, Rooms, designed to make it easier for families and teachers to stay connected and support student success.

The pilot program will begin this school year at Harker Heights Elementary and Eastern Hills Middle School, with the possibility of expanding to additional KISD campuses soon. Rooms will be accessible through the Killeen ISD mobile app, providing a secure, convenient space for parents and guardians to communicate directly with teachers and view class updates — all in one place. Parents with multiple children will access this one communication tool through KISD’s mobile app and toggle between their students.

Anyone can download the Killeen ISD app for free on the App Store or Google Play. From the app, you can view upcoming events, follow KISD and your child’s school for the latest updates, access the staff directory, submit tips through the tip line, check grades, attendance and meal balances through Home Access Center, see what’s for lunch – and more!

It is important to note that all families will be able to see buttons in the mobile app for “Rooms” and “Messages,” but only families with students at the pilot schools — Harker Heights Elementary and Eastern Hills Middle School — will be able to utilize the tool during the pilot. These pilot-school families will hear more information directly from their schools about Rooms as early as August 4.

The addition of this tool comes after district leaders spent the spring and summer meeting with families and community members, where they heard a clear desire for a one-stop shop to enhance communication between home and school. Rooms is KISD’s response to that need — part of a larger commitment to strengthen family engagement and make communication easier and more accessible.

What is Rooms?
Rooms is a two-way communication platform built to simplify how families and teachers connect. Parents can send and receive messages from teachers, view class announcements, and get important reminders. Teachers can share updates about assignments, classroom events and student progress, helping create a partnership that supports learning at home and at school.

Rooms includes automatic translation in more than 90 languages, allowing parents and teachers to communicate in the language they’re most comfortable using. Messages are automatically translated, so each person receives them in their preferred language, helping break down barriers and ensure clear, meaningful communication.

Why is KISD piloting Rooms?
Piloting Rooms at two campuses allows KISD to gather feedback, refine implementation and ensure a smooth rollout to all schools in the near future. It’s part of the district’s broader effort to facilitate communications that supports creating a welcoming learning environment where every student can thrive.

How will families access Rooms?
Families will log in to Rooms using the Killeen ISD mobile app. Once logged in, parents can easily see their child’s classes and communicate securely with their teachers.

During the piloting period, only families with students at Harker Heights Elementary or Eastern Hills Middle School will be able to utilize the “Rooms” and “Messages” buttons in the mobile app.

What’s next?
KISD will share guides and tutorials to help families get started with Rooms and will provide updates as the district prepares to expand the tool to additional campuses.
