From pre-kindergarten to fifth grade, students, teachers and administrators including the principal on Monday came to school wearing dots.
Big dots and small dots on shirts, pants, dresses, shoes as well as stickers on clothes and faces were part of the celebration of International Dot Day at Meadows Elementary School on Fort Hood.
Librarian Katrina Schoenrock was the chief dot engineer for the event.
Through her guidance, individual students and entire classes put together dot-inspired take-home art projects that followed a solar system theme.
Circular planets hung from the library ceiling close to the circular fish from last year’s underwater theme.
The school also incorporated Dot Day into the school’s spirit week focused on attendance, beginning with Monday’s effort to “Be at School On the Dot!”
Dot Day began in 2009 with a teacher in Iowa inspired by a book called “The Dot,” by Peter Reynolds about a child who was reluctant to express herself with art but with a teacher’s kind compassion mustered the courage to make her mark starting with a simple dot.
“At Meadows, we celebrated by creating dot planets and combined them to form a school solar system,” said Schoenrock. “We want all students to soar to success together. We are excited to see the mark they will make on the world.”
