HHHS boys cross country team

Led by three runners in the top 10, the Harker Heights boys cross country team placed first Thursday at the 13-team Lake Belton Bronco Invitational at Crossroads Park in Temple.

 

Blake Zimmerman led the top-10 trio with a time of 16 minutes, 15.6 seconds for second place in the 3.1-mile Class 5A/6A. Christion Meiners (17:09.6) was fifth and Cody Zimmerman (17:15.2) seventh. Kealin Sandifer (17:35.1) finished 11th and Tanner McIntosh-Richter (18:22.1) was 33rd, contributing to the Knights’ gold-medal team score of 56.

 

Paced by Cristian Vasquez (14th, 17:41.3), Chaparral was fifth, and Shoemaker, led by David Bluhm (ninth, 17:33.5) and Matthew Patterson (10th, 17:34.3), was seventh.

 

In the girls race, Shoemaker’s Kahlia Woodley had the top time among KISD runners, finishing 19th in 21:25.7.

 

Yeylis Tello (22:21.7) was 36th for Chaparral, which placed eighth out of 17 teams. Harker Heights was 11th and Shoemaker 12th.

The Killeen Roos are scheduled to appear Saturday in the Round Rock McNeil “Hoka” Invitational.

 

The cross country regular season continues for two more weeks before KISD teams toe the line in the district meets the week of Oct. 8-9.
