KISD scores highest rating in independent audit for 33rd straight year

Killeen ISD has once again been recognized for excellence in financial transparency and accountability. For the 33rd consecutive year, the district has received the prestigious Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting (COE) from the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO).

The award honors KISD’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) for the fiscal year ending August 31, 2024. The independent audit firm of Lott, Vernon and Company, LLC conducted the audit of the ACFR prepared by KISD staff for submission to ASBO International.

“For 33 consecutive years, KISD has earned this recognition, which reflects not only our ongoing commitment to sound financial stewardship but also a culture of transparency that is embedded in everything we do,” Kallen Vaden, KISD’s chief financial officer, said. “We take seriously our responsibility to manage taxpayer dollars wisely, and this consistent record demonstrates our dedication to maintaining the trust of our community while ensuring strong support for our students.”

The Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting is the gold standard for school district financial reporting, with submitted reports undergoing a rigorous review by a panel of experienced financial professionals. Districts that meet the program’s high standards are recognized for promoting clarity, accuracy, and accountability in their financial reporting — practices that also support strong bond ratings and continuing bond disclosures.

KISD’s three-decade record of achievement in financial reporting underscores the district’s dedication to maintaining the highest standards in serving students, families, and the community.
