Killeen ISD’s five high school bands achieved a three-peat at the annual region marching contest Saturday, earning perfect scores to advance to the area round of UIL marching competition.
It was the third year in a row for the bands to all make the grade to move to the next level.
“I’m thrilled to report all five high school bands received superior ratings across the board,” said KISD Assistant Fine Arts Director Amy Bennett.
“Each campus was adjudicated by three judges. All three judges gave all five campuses a “one” or a “superior” rating. That’s 15 “Superiors” or “ones.” What a big and exciting day.”
The bands performed Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Region 8 UIL Marching Contest at Midway ISD’s Panther Stadium.
They now move on to the Area D Marching Contest.
Harker Heights, Shoemaker and Killeen compete among 6A qualifiers Saturday, Oct. 25 at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex in Round Rock.
Ellison and Chaparral compete at the 5A contest Saturday, November 1 at The Pfield in Pflugerville.
The Harker Heights High School Red Brigade Band qualified for area for the 14th year in a row. The band performed a show called “Neon Knights” that honors the school’s 25th anniversary about a knight’s journey in the future.
The Shoemaker Greywolf Band is moving to area for the fourth year in a row. Their show this year is called “Blue Skies,” a look at the highs and lows of life.
The Chaparral Bobcat Band continued its perfect run, advancing to area for the fourth time in the school’s four-year history. This year’s show “Whispers in the Wind,” draws from the dark and mysterious.
The Killeen Roo Band is returning to the area round for the third year in a row. It is performing “A Stitch in Time,” with songs related to time.
The Ellison Screaming Eagle Band is also on to area for the third year in a row. Its show is a celebration of the New York City performance scene.
