Killeen ISD has been recognized for the second year in a row as a CTE District of Distinction by the Career and Technical Association of Texas (CTAT) for its outstanding Career and Technical Education programs that prepare students for high-demand careers and higher education.
Each year, CTAT honors districts that demonstrate strong leadership in CTE, align programs with workforce needs, and show measurable student success. Recognized districts serve as examples across the state, sharing best practices and driving continued improvement in career and technical education.
For the 2024-2025 school year, 600 Killeen ISD students earned industry certificates through KISD’s Career Center and district programs, which allows students to obtain one of 71 industry-level certifications and develop skills that lead to high-paying technical jobs in the workforce. These credentials give students a competitive edge as they enter high-demand fields, pursue higher education, or transition directly into the workforce.
“We are incredibly proud of our educators and students for their dedication and innovation,” Director of Career and Technical Education, Patrice Robinson said. “Being recognized as a CTE District of Distinction affirms our commitment to preparing students for meaningful careers, encouraging creativity, and inspiring excellence across our district and the state.”
The CTE District of Distinction program was created by CTAT to spotlight school districts that deliver exceptional Career and Technical Education programs. Districts are selected through a competitive process that considers innovation in course offerings, alignment with regional workforce needs, access to industry-based certifications, and strong student outcomes. This recognition highlights Killeen ISD’s commitment to shaping the future of Career and Technical Education in Texas.
The Killeen ISD Board of Trustees recently approved plans to reimagine CTE, STEM, and dual-credit opportunities, expanding access to advanced coursework and college credit while students are still in high school.
These collaborative efforts help to bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical experiences for students to gain the needed skills towards advancement.
This ongoing support prepares students for successful transitions into life after high school and beyond.
