KILLEEN, Texas — The Killeen Independent School District Board of Trustees voted Monday during a special meeting to approve Dr. King Davis as the district’s next superintendent of schools. Davis, who has served as interim superintendent since Aug. 11, was named the lone finalist for the position on Oct. 20.

The board’s decision follows community input and trustee discussion regarding the qualities needed in Killeen ISD’s next leader. Trustees said Davis reflects what they heard consistently from the community: experience, stability, transparency and a clear commitment to students and staff.

“Trustees are strong in our belief that Dr. Davis is the right leader at the right time for our district’s students, staff and community,” Board President Brett Williams said. “His well-rounded skill set positions him to impact positive change sooner than later within our district. Dr. Davis has demonstrated an authentic commitment to everything that is KISD. His acceptance of who we are as a district, coupled with his understanding of what is needed for our district to experience new levels of academic achievement positions KISD to truly impact students."

Davis brings more than three decades of experience in public education, including 10 years as a superintendent and a record of strong leadership, academic growth and community engagement. He most recently served as superintendent of Sheldon ISD for eight years, where he helped move the district from “Improvement Required” to a consistent “B” rating and eliminated an $11 million budget deficit in a single fiscal year. He previously served as superintendent of Wharton ISD, deputy superintendent in Everman ISD and assistant superintendent in Crosby ISD, with earlier leadership and classroom roles in Mesquite, Corsicana, Dallas and Lufkin ISDs.

Davis said he is honored to continue serving the Killeen ISD community in a permanent capacity.

“I am grateful for the trust the board has placed in me and humbled by the support of our staff and families,” Davis said. “We have challenges ahead, but I am not afraid to face them. This district and community have the heart and ability to do great things for kids, and I am committed to listening, learning and leading alongside you so every student in Killeen ISD has the opportunity to thrive.”
