How deep was the football talent pool in Killeen ISD during the 2025 season? Well, that, in part, can be answered in the form of six superlatives and 53 first-team selections included in the large assortment of all-district awards bestowed upon players and coaches.
KISD was well-represented among the top honors in District 12-6A, landing a player or coaching staff in five of the seven categories.
Harker Heights quarterback Hudson Humble was voted by the league’s seven coaches as the overall co-most valuable player. Knights linebacker Cooper Howard earned the defensive MVP award, Heights Eric Young III was one of three co-defensive newcomers of the year, and Shoemaker senior Brandon Brown Jr. was selected as the utility MVP.
In District 10-5A-II, Ellison sophomore quarterback Marlyn Smith was voted the offensive newcomer of the year.
While statistics during district games are used to assist in determining awards, a season's worth of numbers paints a more detailed picture.
Humble completed 244 of 322 passes for 3,478 yards and 36 touchdowns, Howard collected 145 total tackles, Young tallied 61 tackles and three interceptions, Brown caught and ran for a combined 983 yards and 17 touchdowns, and Smith passed for 2,924 yards, ran for 643 more and produced a total of 41 TDs.
KISD football teams combined to post 24 wins, and two squads –– Harker Heights and Ellison –– qualified for the playoffs. The Knights went 6-0 in 12-6A for a fourth straight district title then advanced to the second round of the postseason. Th Eagles finished fourth in 10-5A-II for the second consecutive postseason berth.
