he University Interscholastic League (UIL), the governing body over Texas public school athletics and other extracurricular activities, on Tuesday released its enrollment cutoff numbers for 2026-2028 reclassification and realignment process, and some Killeen ISD athletic programs will experience changes next fall.
The cutoff numbers:
Class 6A: 2,215 students and above
Class 5A: 1,305-2,214
Class 4A: 550-1,304
Class 3A: 246-549
Class 2A: 105-245
Class 1A: 104.9 and below
KISD enrollment numbers
Harker Heights: 2,259
Chaparral: 2,234
Shoemaker: 2,114.5
Killeen: 1,970.5
Ellison: 1,731.5
Like many school districts across the state, Killeen ISD on Oct. 31 submitted to the UIL its high school snapshot enrollment numbers.
Those numbers now show that Harker Heights (2,259) will stay as a Class 6A program and bump up Chaparral (2,234) from Class 5A Division I to 6A, Shoemaker (2,114.5) and Killeen (1,970.5) will move down to 5A Division I, and Ellison (1,731.5) will remain in 5A Division II for football districts.
The new classifications go into effect starting fall 2026. The UIL is scheduled to release district realignment information in February.
