The Killeen Independent School District Board of Trustees recognized student winners of the district’s annual Holiday Card Contest during its meeting Tuesday, celebrating creativity and talent from campuses across the district.

Three student designs were selected as the official Killeen ISD holiday cards, and one student designed the holiday card for the Killeen ISD Education Foundation.

The 2025 Holiday Card Contest winners are:

  • Mia Soto Crespo, seventh grade, Manor Middle School

  • Kaylian Romero, eighth grade, Nolan Middle School

  • Reina Kim, seventh grade, Dr. Jimmie Don Aycock Middle School

The Education Foundation Holiday Card was designed by:

  • Richelle Korng, eighth grade, Nolan Middle School

“We look forward to seeing the creativity and talent our students bring to this contest every year,” said Karen Rudolph, executive director for communications and marketing. “This is always a special opportunity to celebrate our students and share their work with the broader community.”

Each student was recognized at Tuesday’s meeting and received a framed copy of their artwork and a bundle of printed holiday cards to share with family and friends.

In other news, trustees received an update on the district’s Call for Quality Schools and progress toward becoming a charter authorizer under Senate Bill 1882.

Trustees voted in October to pursue an 1882 partnership at Manor Middle School as part of a long-term strategy to improve student outcomes. Since that decision, trustees have taken action to update governance policies and adopt an authorizer mission and vision. The district has also submitted KISD’s intent to request SB 1882 benefits through the Texas Education Agency.

As part of the Call for Quality Schools process, which closed Dec. 12, one entity — Third Future Schools — submitted a nonbinding letter of intent indicating plans to apply for a charter partnership with Killeen ISD.

Trustees were also reminded of the district’s authorizing framework, which follows established best practices for charter oversight. The framework includes a structured application process, clear performance expectations, ongoing monitoring, and renewal or revocation decisions based on student outcomes and operational compliance.

Additional updates will be shared with trustees as the application review process continues.
