KILLEEN, Texas — Nine Killeen Independent School District campuses have earned statewide recognition for excellence in school counseling, highlighting the district’s continued commitment to student support and well-being.
Counseling teams from Iduma Elementary, Oveta Culp Hobby Elementary, Eastern Hills Middle School, Gateway Middle School, Liberty Hill Middle School, Ellison High School, Gateway High School, Harker Heights High School and Shoemaker High School received the 2024–25 CREST (Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas) Award.
The CREST Award, presented by the Texas School Counselor Association, recognizes campuses that demonstrate strong implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling.
“These campuses reflect the important work our counselors do every day to support students academically, socially and emotionally,” said Sherce Hampton, Killeen ISD director of counseling for academic advising and planning. “This recognition shows a clear commitment to meeting student needs and helping them succeed both in and beyond the classroom.”
Established in 2005, the CREST Award honors counseling programs that use data-informed practices, collaboration and intentional planning to support student achievement, career readiness and personal growth.
Several Killeen ISD campuses earned repeat recognition this year, including Iduma Elementary, Gateway High School and Harker Heights High School, underscoring sustained excellence in counseling services.
CREST Award recipients will be formally recognized at the Texas Counseling Association Conference scheduled for Feb. 1–3, 2026, in Fort Worth.
