KILLEEN, Texas — The Killeen Independent School District will recognize its Board of Trustees in January as part of School Board Recognition Month, a statewide observance that highlights the service of elected school board members across Texas.

KISD’s board is made up of seven volunteers elected to represent the community and make decisions that support student learning and district operations. Trustees oversee priorities, policies and budgets, and they help guide long-term planning for the district.

Superintendent Dr. King Davis said trustees contribute significant time to KISD each year through board meetings and workshops, trainings and district events — not including athletic and fine arts activities they also attend.

“Our trustees give an incredible amount of time to this district, and they take their responsibility seriously,” Davis said. “They ask hard questions, they listen, and they stay focused on what’s best for kids. I’m grateful for their service and proud that we get to recognize them this month.”

The KISD Board of Trustees includes Brett E. Williams (Place 5), Susan M. Jones (Place 2), Brenda Adams (Place 1), Marvin Rainwater (Place 4), Oliver Mintz (Place 3), Tina Capito (Place 6) and Rodney Gilchrist (Place 7).

Williams, who was first appointed to the board in 2018, said serving KISD has been a meaningful experience.

“Serving the Killeen ISD community has been an absolute honor and a privilege that I do not take for granted,” Williams said. “This district matters to me, and I’m proud to work alongside people who care deeply about students and staff. I’m grateful for the trust our community places in us.”

Rainwater, who was elected to the board in 2014, said he serves to support students and public education in Killeen.

“I serve because I believe in public education and I believe in this community,” Rainwater said. “It’s important to me that we make decisions that support students and respect the work happening in our schools. I’m grateful for the chance to give back.”

Several campuses will recognize trustees throughout the month, with district-level recognition planned during the Jan. 20 board meeting.
