KISD seal

The Killeen Independent School District Board of Trustees received an update Tuesday on the district’s Call for Quality Schools and progress toward a Senate Bill 1882 partnership at Manor Middle School.

At Tuesday’s regular board meeting, Dr. Terri Osborne, deputy superintendent for Learning Services, reminded trustees and the public that in the fall, Killeen ISD began the process to become a charter authorizer and launched a Call for Quality Schools to invite a potential operating partner to submit an application.

Third Future Schools submitted its application by the Jan. 9 deadline, Osborne reported, adding that district staff will review the application by Jan. 30 and bring a recommendation to the board on Feb. 10.

In other news, trustees approved an agreement with the Armed Services YMCA. The agreement consolidates two existing agreements into one and will take effect June 1, 2026, for a 10-year term. Under the agreement, the Armed Services YMCA will continue offering before- and after-school childcare programs at designated district facilities at no cost to the YMCA. In return, Killeen ISD will have access to the Armed Services YMCA natatorium for high school, middle school and elementary swim programs within designated timeframes at no additional cost.

The agreement also increases the district staff discount for childcare services from 30% to 40%, effective Jan. 1, 2027.
