The 26th annual Harker Heights High School Knight Club is this weekend, and the show is good as ever – even better, according to the hard-working choir students ready to rock the stage.
The Knight Club is scheduled Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

The popular fundraiser supports choir student scholarships and underwrites the production.
Ticket prices range according to seat from $5 to $30.

For choir students at Harker Heights High School, Knight Club is time to put away the typical formal, classical choral performance standards and get serious about classic rock, pop, country and R&B.
The show includes two acts of 15 songs apiece, ranging from the 1960s to the early 2000s. This year’s 30 pieces range from Kenny Rodgers and Dolly Parton to Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Jimmy Eat World, Bruno Mars, Billie Eilish and much more.
In addition to feature solos, duets and groups, the show includes the choir’s ensembles, the Iron Maidens and Pitch Black and culminates with a senior song to party to.
Jack Smith, a senior, is entering his fourth show, but his first with a solo act. “I think it’s special because it’s homegrown inside of Harker Heights. It’s all Harker Heights students and that makes it wonderful.”
“We definitely work really hard with our music and performance and it’s a top-notch quality show.”
The lights, special effects and excited audience is powerful for the performers on stage.
As a senior, Smith said, “I definitely want to leave a legacy. Now that I’ve done it so long, people are watching me. It’s been going on more than 20 years and I’m just glad to be part of that.”
Benji Contreras, a senior and four-time All-State Choir member, is also preparing for his final Knight Club.
“This is such a great time,” he said. “The magic has not faded. It is amazing as a performer and an audience member. It’s just showtime. I love it.”
“I’m excited to go out with a bang. I think over the past few years and as a group we have evolved into what we want Knight Club to be.”
“Knight Club is what our choir looks forward to every year,” said Nadiya Nunn, a junior. “It’s our big pop show. It’s rock. It’s country. It’s R&B. It’s all of it.”
“It’s a different feeling and I think that’s why most choir kids keep coming back. The light is on you, and all the people are looking at you. It’s really one of the best feelings in the world.”
“Once you really get into the flow of it, it feels like you’re showing off what you learned.”
Piper Kanne, a sophomore, was behind the scenes last year and this year has a solo act and two background dancer roles.
“It’s a really great experience and I think it brings a lot of people together and shows that music is a very powerful thing.”
