Killeen ISD wrestlers showcased their strength once again during two days of regional competition after which 18 qualified for state.
Chaparral’s Ava Milliner (115 pounds) and Harker Heights’ Saniah Ebron (235) claimed KISD’s individual regional championships Saturday, placing atop the podium at the Class 5A Region II meet in Dallas and 6A Region IV meet in Austin, respectively.
The Harker Heights Lady Knights, one week after finishing runner up at the District 13-6A meet, flexed their muscles and team depth to place second by a mere 1/½ points behind San Antonio Johnson.
The KISD collection of golden performances also featured four silver medals –– Sophia Cooley (100), Breyanah Leyva-Arciniega (105), Italy Angevine (110), Jaycie Guthrie (140), from the Ellison Lady Eagles, who finished fourth overall as a team. The Lady Bobcats placed seventh.
Back in the 6A-IV meet, the Lady Knights got a silver from Ana Davis (170), and the Shoemaker boys had two finish second –– Aljohn Morales (126) and Logan O’Brien (285)

Harker Heights: Emily Malbrough (fourth, 105), Meribel Flores (fourth, 135), Ana Davis (second, 170), Saniah Ebron (first, 235), Anthony Pough (fourth, 138), Geoffrey Anderson (third, 190),
Shoemaker: Aljohn Morales (second, 126), Sheldon Gunnells (fourth, 215), Logan O’Brien (second, 285)
KISD also had four wrestlers finish fifth –– Desiree Madrid, Chaparral; Ivan Arzate, Harker Heights; Zana Connally, Shoemaker; Deliya Jennings, Harker Heights –– to notch an alternate slot for state. That means if anyone in their weight class is scratched before the start of the state tournament, they could get into the draw.
Those wrestlers will now shift their attention to the University Interscholastic League State Wrestling Championships Feb. 13-14 at the Berry Center in Cypress.
