Shakira Bodon will serve as principal of Killeen Elementary, and Christina Harris will lead Audie Murphy Middle School, Killeen ISD announced Thursday.
Bodon and Harris currently serve at campuses that will close at the end of this school year as part of the district’s ongoing optimization efforts. Both were selected for new principal roles based on their track records of campus leadership and student-focused results.
“These are proven principals,” said Superintendent Dr. King Davis. “Their campuses are closing at the end of this school year, but we didn’t want to lose their leadership. They’ve built strong teams, they’ve helped students grow, and they know how to move a campus forward. Families and students at Killeen Elementary and Audie Murphy will benefit from that experience on day one.”
The new principals will assume their roles at the start of the 2026–2027 school year.
Shakira Bodon – Killeen Elementary:
Bodon will replace Yanitzie Oquendo, who recently was named executive director of school leadership for elementary schools.
A part of Killeen ISD since 2009, Bodon currently serves as principal of Peebles Elementary. Prior to that, she was the assistant principal at Pat Carney Elementary and Clarke Elementary, the campus instructional specialist at Peebles Elementary and a teacher at Mountain View and Maxdale elementaries.
Bodon earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas and a master’s degree from Concordia University.
Christina Harris – Audie Murphy Middle School:
Harris, who started with Killeen ISD in 2005, will move from Palo Alto Middle School to Audie Murphy Middle School on Fort Hood.
Within her 20 years in the district, Harris’ roles have included principal of Patterson Middle School, high school teacher, AVID specialist, campus instructional specialist, director for curriculum and instruction, and assistant principal.
Harris obtained a bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma City University and a master’s degree from Texas A&M-Central Texas.
