A Cavazos Elementary School fourth-grader wants to make a positive difference in the world and sees no reason why she shouldn’t start right away.
Leading up to her 10th birthday this past January 27, Alivia Chambers and her mother Alyssa began looking up videos and happened upon the idea of putting together birthday kits for children whose families are challenged to pay for a party.
So, they shopped for the usual decorations, napkins, plates, forks, candles, snacks, drinks and cake mix and assembled 10 kits and donated them to Cavazos Elementary School to use as needed.
The idea struck a chord with the staff at the elementary school and on Friday, the school’s leadership honored Alivia with some gifts of her own and a little extra recognition during a monthly Star Award ceremony.
“I came up with it because I know a lot of kids around the world can’t celebrate their own birthday because their parents can’t afford it so I decided to make the birthday kits so they can still have a party,” she said following the school ceremony.
She figures she and her parents spent two weeks planning before shopping for the items.
“I did not think I would be recognized for it,” she said. “I feel great because I feel like I’m giving back to other kids.”
Alivia likes world history, makes good grades and is planning on becoming an anesthesiologist so she can help people in her work and make enough money to do lots of good deeds.
“She is very kind and compassionate,” her mother said, noting that Alivia is quick to sense when others need a friend or are sad. “She always wants to help.”
