Ellison's Sean Parks

Four of the five superlative honors up for grabs on the 2025-2026 All-District 16-5A boys basketball list are filled with Ellison and Chaparral representatives, proving once again that the talent in Killeen ISD is hard to ignore.

Eagles guard Sean Parks was voted the district’s overall MVP, Chaparral’s Demoni Mayes and Carlos Robinson earned offensive player of the year and co-defensive player of the year, respectively, and Ellison’s Alberto Jones Jr. continued his reign as coach of the year.

Ellison basketball coach Alberto Jones Jr.Parks averaged 19.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.6 steals during the 10-game 16-5A slate, during which the Eagles surged for eight straight wins after an 0-2 start to claim their fourth consecutive district title.

Aside from the stats, though, Jones’ praise for Parks’ begins with the senior’s leadership.

“I’ve had some really good players over the last few years, but in my 18 years I’ve never had a kid that had a bigger impact on his team as Sean Parks did with this group. To call him the heart and soul would be an understatement,” Jones said, pointing to a pair of Parks’ playoff performances this season.

In the first round, Parks shook off lingering flu symptoms to lead a late-game push –– five points in the final 17 seconds to seal a four-point win over Crandall. In Round 2, Parks scored 32 of Ellison’s 42 points in a victory over Mesquite Poteet.

Chaparral's Demoni Mayes“That was one of the best playoff performances I’ve been a part of,” Jones said.

Jones’ coach of the year selection is his fourth in a row, sixth in the last seven seasons and ninth overall during his 18 years in charge of the Eagles, who advanced to at least the third round of the playoffs for the seventh consecutive time.

“I’m humbled and proud of the work my staff and I did, especially after starting district with two double-digit losses,” he said.

Robinson, a tall, lanky presence in the post for the Bobcats, averaged seven points, 10.7 rebounds and three blocks in district play, often setting the tone under the basket.

“He anchored our defense every night, protected the rim and controlled the glass,” said Chaparral head coach Christopher Onwukaife, whose team placed third in 16-5A, advanced to the playoffs and posted a program-best 25 wins. “Replacing what he meant to our team will be extremely difficult, and I’m really glad to see him receive the recognition he deserves.”

Mayes’ accuracy from the field –– 40 percent from 3-point range and 60 percent overall –– led to an average of 11 points a night during 16-5A action. He also produced 2.4 assists and grabbed an average of three rebounds.

Chaparral's Carlos Robinson“It’s been really fun to watch Demoni grow over the years I’ve had him. I’ve seen the work he’s put in and the way he’s continued to develop his overall game. I’m proud of the progress he’s made. At the same time, a lot of what he brings to the table are things you simply can’t teach,” Onwukaife said.

“He and his fellow first-team selection Curtis Watson-Davis pushed each other every single day, and they were a huge reason for our success this season. I’m really proud of both of those guys.”
