Killeen ISD's preliminary STAAR results show encouraging progress as well as room for improvement across multiple grade levels and content areas.

At the elementary level, Grade 5 Reading was a significant bright spot, demonstrating growth across all achievement levels and reflecting strong student performance in literacy. Grade 4 results were more mixed, with gains in Mathematics but declines in Reading, while Grade 3 Mathematics experienced decreases across achievement levels, highlighting the continued need to strengthen foundational math skills in the early grades. These results reinforce the importance of ensuring students develop strong literacy and numeracy skills that serve as the foundation for future academic success.

Middle school results were largely positive, with Grade 6 Math, Grade 7 Reading, Grade 8 Reading, Grade 8 Math, and Grade 8 Social Studies demonstrating stable or improving performance. Grade 7 Math produced mixed results, with performance remaining stable at the Approaches level, declining at the Meets level, and increasing at the Masters level. Continued attention will be needed to increase the percentage of students meeting grade-level expectations. Overall, middle school students showed continued progress as they prepare for the academic demands of high school.

High school students demonstrated some of the district's strongest gains, particularly in Algebra I and Biology, where performance improved across all achievement levels. These results reflect the hard work of students, teachers, and staff as they prepare students for success beyond graduation. While opportunities remain to increase advanced performance in English courses, the overall results indicate positive momentum across the district.

While the district saw growth in several grade levels and content areas, the results also highlight areas where improvement is needed. As district and campus leaders continue reviewing the data, the results will be used to identify priorities, strengthen support for students and address gaps in academic performance. Killeen ISD remains committed to improving outcomes and increasing the number of students who meet and exceed grade-level expectations.

"Our responsibility is to be transparent about both our successes and our challenges," Davis said. "We will build on areas of growth, address areas that need improvement, and use these results to guide our work moving forward. Every student deserves a strong educational foundation, and we remain focused on improving outcomes across Killeen ISD."
