Six Killeen ISD theatre departments are taking a bow after earning statewide Campus of Distinction honors from the Texas Educational Theatre Association.
Chaparral High School and Union Grove Middle School received the organization’s highest designation as Exemplary Campuses. Ellison, Harker Heights and Killeen high schools and Nolan Middle School earned Outstanding Campus recognition.
“We are thrilled to add so many theatre programs to this recognition for Killeen ISD. These accomplishments signal an increase in the quality of theatre programming offered throughout our district,” Killeen ISD Director for Fine Arts Morganne Davies said.
The honor marks the third consecutive year Chaparral, under the guidance of directors Samantha Dunaway and Chad Moore, has received the top distinction. Union Grove is led by director Blake Jones.
The Texas Educational Theatre Association evaluates theatre programs across the state using an extensive performance rubric that measures areas such as instructional support and curriculum, performance opportunities and events, leadership development, facilities and resources, community and administrative support and overall program quality. Schools are awarded based on their cumulative score.
“These achievements speak highly to the hard work and dedication of our theatre students and teachers,” Davies added. “They also represent significant investment and support from our district leadership and community.”
