As Killeen ISD prepares for the start of the 2026-2027 school year, the Board of Trustees on Tuesday approved an employee compensation package and adopted the district's annual Student Code of Conduct.

The compensation package includes a 1% general pay increase for all employees and increases the district's minimum wage by $1 per hour to $14. To help offset rising health insurance costs, every employee will also receive an additional $50 per month, or $600 annually. The starting teacher salary will increase to $59,400.

The Board approved the compensation package while continuing to navigate a challenging financial landscape shaped by declining enrollment and the long-term reduction of federal Impact Aid. The compensation package reflects the district's continued effort to invest in employees while maintaining long-term financial stability.

Trustees also approved the 2026-2027 Killeen ISD Student Code of Conduct, which outlines expectations for student behavior and supports safe, orderly learning environments across the district.

The annual update includes revisions related to personal communication devices, technology use, disciplinary procedures and other provisions designed to support student learning and campus safety.

The updated code reinforces district expectations for a cell phone-free school day and reminds families that students may not use personal communication devices, including cell phones, smart watches, tablets, earbuds, headphones, AI glasses and other electronic devices, on school property during the school day. Metal water bottles are also now prohibited on all campuses, including at elementary schools.

The 2026-2027 Student Code of Conduct will be available on the district website before the start of the school year. Manor Middle School students begin classes Tuesday, Aug. 4. All other Killeen ISD students begin classes Monday, Aug. 17.
