Killeen ISD is proud to serve one of the nation's largest military-connected student populations and remains committed to supporting military and peace officer families as they transition into our community.
Transfer requests from military and peace officer families continue to be welcomed and reviewed through the district's transfer process.
Although House Bill 2892 expanded transfer opportunities for eligible students, beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, Killeen ISD transfer requests are considered based on campus capacity and the student's attendance and behavior history under the KISD District of Innovation Plan.
Because available space varies by campus, families are encouraged to complete enrollment and submit transfer requests as early as possible. Applying early provides the greatest opportunity for students to be placed at one of their preferred campuses before schools reach capacity.
Each transfer request receives careful consideration based on district procedures and available space. Families will be notified once their request has been reviewed.
Families can start the enrollment process at www.killeenisd.org/enroll.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why is this different from previous years?
A. In April 2026, the Killeen ISD Board of Trustees approved updates to the district's District of Innovation Plan. Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, military and peace officer transfer requests are reviewed under those provisions, allowing the district to consider campus capacity, along with a student's attendance and behavior history, when making transfer decisions.
Q. What can families do to improve their chances of receiving a preferred campus?
A. Families are encouraged to complete enrollment and submit transfer requests as early as possible. Some campuses reach capacity before the start of the school year, and early requests have the greatest opportunity for placement at a preferred campus.
