The Harker Heights volleyball team dropped just one set over eight matches during the three-day Queens of the Court tournament, capping the run with a gold bracket title Saturday.
The Lady Knights went 6-0 through pool play Thursday and Friday before defeating Ellison in the gold bracket semifinals and outlasting another Killeen ISD counterpart Chaparral 25-26, 25-23 in the final.
“I’m impressed with how the team worked together and every player had the same goal,” said Lady Knights head coach Crystal Bennett, whose squad is 9-0 to start the season. “They showed that the have a championship mindset, and I couldn’t be prouder of them.”
This was the third annual Queens of the Court tournament. The 17 teams entered were the most in the event’s history, and hopes are to expand the field more next year.

The Lady Bobcats also went 6-0 over the first two days and advanced to the gold bracket championship match by defeating Midlothian Heritage in the semifinals.
Heritage went on to top Central Texas Christian for third.
Elgin won the silver bracket, and Judson Wagner was third. Florence claimed the bronze bracket title with Killeen taking third.
Ellison went 6-2 over the three days, sweeping its pool play matches, while Shoemaker played into the bronze bracket.
The busy schedule continues with all five teams in action over the next two days. The Lady Eagles host Cedar Ridge at 6:30 p.m. Monday. On Tuesday, Chaparral hosts Academy (6 p.m.), Killeen is at Harker Heights (6:30 p.m.) and Shoemaker is at Manor (6:30 p.m.).
