Killeen ISD joins the Central Texas community in mourning the passing of former Killeen ISD Trustee Jean Shine, whose connection to the district spanned generations.
Mrs. Shine first attended Killeen ISD schools as a child when her father was stationed at Fort Hood. Years later, she returned to the community and became one of the district’s most dedicated advocates, serving three terms on the Killeen ISD Board of Trustees.
Her commitment to education continued long after her time on the Board. Mrs. Shine helped establish the Killeen ISD Education Foundation and remained a steadfast supporter of opportunities for students and educators.
That same spirit of service could be seen throughout her life. She cared deeply about Central Texas and was especially devoted to supporting soldiers, veterans and military families. Whether through education, civic organizations or her work honoring veterans, Mrs. Shine spent decades giving back to the community she called home.
Her passing comes just months after the death of her husband, William “Bill” Shine, a 2010 Killeen ISD Distinguished Alumni honoree. Together, Jean and Bill built a remarkable legacy of service to Killeen and Central Texas.
Killeen ISD extends its heartfelt condolences to the Shine family and the many people whose lives were touched by Jean.
