KISD Celebrates 34 Purple Star Campuses

Killeen ISD is celebrating 34 schools currently holding the Texas Education Agency’s Purple Star Campus Designation, recognizing their commitment to supporting military-connected students and families.

Thirty-one schools earned the designation in the latest application cycle, joining Pathways Academic Campus, Timber Ridge Elementary and Willow Springs Elementary, which earned the two-year designation in 2025.

The Purple Star Campus Designation recognizes Texas schools that provide specific resources and support to help military-connected students and families navigate the unique challenges of military life, including school transitions and family deployments.

“Supporting military-connected students and families is deeply connected to who we are in Killeen ISD,” said Dr. Angenet Wilkerson, executive director for district and community relations. “Our military families sacrifice so much in service to our country, and our schools have an important role in making sure their children feel welcomed, connected and supported. This recognition reflects the intentional work happening across our campuses, and we are proud to continue expanding that support throughout Killeen ISD.”

The Purple Star Campus Designation was created by the 86th Texas Legislature through Senate Bill 1557. To earn the designation, campuses must designate a campus military liaison, maintain an easily accessible webpage with resources for military-connected families and provide a transition program for military-connected students.

Campuses must also complete at least one additional initiative demonstrating support for military families, such as participating in Month of the Military Child or Military Family Month, adopting a resolution supporting military-connected students and families, or partnering with a military school liaison.
