Grandparents took centerstage at one Killeen elementary school Monday and promptly began reading to students.
A day after the official National Grandparents’ Day Maude Moore Wood Elementary School welcomed a group of volunteer grandparents to class to read to students.
Parent liaison Kimberly Eagans said the special day of reading is powerful for everyone.
Counselor Sarah Rice suggested the project and Eagans jumped on it and scheduled six grandparents to read to pre-kindergarten through second-grade classrooms for “Once Upon a Grandparent.”
“The children are smiling. They enjoy it,” said Eagans. “To actually see the (grandparents) read and focus on children you see the passion pour through.”
