Community Town Halls

With more than 5,000 fewer students enrolled in Killeen ISD than just a few years ago, what does that mean for the future of our schools?

Killeen ISD is inviting families, employees and community members to attend an upcoming Optimization 2.0 Community Town Hall to learn more about the district's declining enrollment, funding challenges and proposed changes to campus operations.

Each meeting will explain the why, what, and how of KISD’s Optimization 2.0 and address the questions submitted by the community. There will also be opportunities for attendees to share feedback before final decisions are made.

Your questions matter! Before attending, please review the proposed scenarios and submit your questions at www.killeenisd.org/optimization.

Submitting questions in advance will help district leaders prepare meaningful answers and focus the meetings on the topics that matter most to families, employees and the community.

Why Is KISD Considering Changes?

Killeen ISD has experienced a decline of more than 5,000 students since the 2022-2023 school year. Fewer students affect district funding, staffing needs and how school facilities are used.

As enrollment and funding change, the district must evaluate how to make the best use of its resources while continuing to provide strong academic programs, safe learning environments and opportunities for student success.

Through Optimization 2.0, Killeen ISD is reviewing potential changes to campus operations, school boundaries and facility use to better align resources with current and future student needs.

What to Expect at the Town Halls

Each town hall will cover all proposed Optimization 2.0 scenarios, regardless of the meeting location.

Meetings will begin at 6 p.m. and include a presentation, opportunities to share feedback and time to speak individually with district leaders.

Here’s what you can expect and how you can participate:

  • Learn WHY changes are being considered. Understand the enrollment, financial and facility challenges facing Killeen ISD.

  • Explore WHAT is being proposed. Review the Optimization 2.0 scenarios and how they could affect students, academic programs and campuses.

  • Understand HOW decisions will be made. Learn about the decision-making process, opportunities for community input and next steps.

  • Ask questions and share your perspective. Hear responses to community questions submitted in advance at www.killeenisd.org/optimization, participate in a live Q&A and provide feedback through interactive polls.

  • Connect with district leaders. Following the presentation, speak one-on-one with district leaders about questions or concerns specific to your family or campus.

Make your voice heard! Submit your questions in advance to help shape the discussion, attend a town hall and complete the community survey available to KISD families and staff beginning Nov. 10. Your feedback will help inform future decisions as the board of trustees considers the proposed scenarios.

How Will Community Feedback Be Used?

Community feedback is an important part of the Optimization 2.0 planning process, and Killeen ISD is providing multiple opportunities for families, employees and community members to participate.

During the town halls, attendees and those watching the livestream will be able to respond to interactive live polls. These polls are not a vote on the proposed scenarios and will inform future discussions.

A separate survey for Killeen ISD families and employees will open Tuesday, Nov. 10, and close Monday, Nov. 23. This survey will provide a more formal opportunity for those directly connected to the district to share their feedback on the proposed scenarios.

Families and employees are strongly encouraged to complete the survey, even if they attend a town hall or participate in live polling.

Feedback collected throughout the process will help inform district leadership's recommendations and future Board discussions. No final decisions have been made on the proposed Optimization 2.0 scenarios.

Submit Questions, Attend and Complete the Survey

Killeen ISD encourages families, employees and community members to take an active role in the Optimization 2.0 process.

Submitting questions in advance is one of the best ways to help make the town halls meaningful and productive. Questions submitted ahead of time allow district leaders to identify common concerns, research answers and prepare information that addresses what the community most wants to know.

Questions may address proposed school closures, consolidations, attendance boundary changes or potential impacts on students, staff and families.

Submit Your Questions in Advance

Families and employees are also encouraged to complete the Optimization 2.0 survey beginning Nov. 10, regardless of whether they participate in a town hall. The survey will close Nov. 23.

Killeen ISD remains committed to keeping families, employees and community members informed throughout the process and ensuring their feedback is considered before final decisions are made.
