KILLEEN, TX — Killeen ISD Superintendent Dr. Jo Ann Fey has notified the Board of Trustees of her intention to submit her resignation letter. As a result, the Board of Trustees is calling for a special meeting scheduled for July 26.
At the July 26 special board meeting, Trustees will discuss and consider appointing an acting/interim superintendent to manage day-to-day operations until a permanent replacement is selected. The Board will also discuss options related to the search process for identifying and selecting the next superintendent for Killeen Independent School District.
"On behalf of the Killeen ISD Board of Trustees, I want to thank Dr. Fey for her service to our students, staff, and community," said Brett E. Williams, KISD Board President. "Dr. Fey has facilitated several initiatives during her tenure that will benefit our district for years to come. We appreciate her contributions. Although transitions like these may bring uncertainty, they also create opportunities for growth. The Board will move swiftly to ensure that our KISD family is not compromised as we navigate the search process. Our community deserves a process that is transparent and thorough, identifying a new leader who will continue to keep the needs of our students at the forefront."
Williams emphasized that the board is confident that the search process will identify a superintendent with the skillset needed to lead Killeen ISD. The search process will include community input, and Williams pledged to provide regular updates to ensure transparency.
"Ensuring we continue to be focused on academic growth and educational excellence remain the Board’s highest priorities,” Williams said.
Dr. Fey, who made history as KISD’s first female superintendent in July 2023, will be stepping down to pursue a new opportunity as deputy superintendent for administration with Northside ISD, a district closer to her family in San Antonio. She cited the desire to support her family, including aging parents and welcoming her first grandchild this fall, as key factors in her decision.
