Killeen ISD has again been recognized as one of the Best Communities for Music Education by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation for 2024, a prestigious honor awarded to only 975 school districts across the country.

This national designation celebrates Killeen ISD’s exceptional commitment to providing access to music education as part of a well-rounded academic experience. It recognizes the collaborative efforts of KISD's teachers, administrators, students, parents, and community partners who actively support and elevate music learning across all grade levels.

“This recognition highlights what we already know to be true — that music education is a vital part of student development and success,” said Morganne Davies, KISD Fine Arts Director. “From elementary music classes and middle school bands to award-winning high school ensembles and marching bands, our students are learning discipline, teamwork, and creativity through music.”

To qualify for the designation, districts must meet rigorous criteria across multiple areas including funding, staffing of highly qualified music teachers, commitment to standards-based instruction, and community support. The review process also evaluates how music programs are integrated into the overall educational experience.

In addition to the district-wide recognition, 122 individual schools across the nation received SupportMusic Merit Awards for outstanding music programs. Killeen ISD is proud to be in the company of districts and schools that demonstrate the highest levels of dedication to music education.

Music programs in KISD continue to thrive, engaging thousands of students in choir, band, orchestra, mariachi, and general music instruction. Students regularly compete at the regional and state level, with many earning top honors and scholarships for their musical achievements.

As the district continues to grow, so does its commitment to cultivating talent and creating opportunities for students to experience the transformative power of music.

Congratulations to the entire KISD community for making music education a priority — and for being a shining example of what’s possible when a district invests in the arts.
