Killeen ISD Receives State and National Recognition for Visual Arts and Music Education

Killeen ISD has once again been recognized among the top districts in art education, earning two major honors for the 2024-2025 school year.

For the third consecutive year, KISD placed among the top 8% of districts statewide for excellence in visual arts education, earning the 2025 District of Distinction Award from the Texas Art Education Association (TAEA).

The TAEA District of Distinction Award honors districts that meet rigorous criteria, including visual arts curriculum integration, student creativity, social-emotional learning and community engagement. Out of more than 1,200 eligible Texas districts, only 109 earned the distinction for 2024-2025.

For the fourth year in a row, KISD was also named among the Best Communities for Music Education by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), recognizing the district’s outstanding commitment to providing high-quality music instruction and access for all students.

This national distinction is awarded to school districts that demonstrate exceptional achievement in providing music access and education. KISD’s application highlighted areas including funding, graduation requirements, music participation, instruction time, program support and community opportunities.

“The fine arts programs within Killeen ISD provide an environment where our students’ exceptional talents can shine, enriching both their learning and our broader community,” Fine Arts Director Morganne Davies said. “Receiving both of these prestigious awards again affirms the excellence of our dedicated fine arts educators. We are deeply grateful to district leadership, staff, families and community members for their continued and invaluable support. Together, we’re helping shape bright futures through the power of the arts.”
