With cheers and congratulations, Killeen ISD leaders congratulated 10 outstanding district teachers, all finalists in the district’s annual teacher of the year process.

Two separate groups made the rounds Wednesday, one stopping at six elementary schools and the other going to four secondary schools to honor this year’s teacher of the year finalists.

Each finalist received a $1,000 check and other prizes. They were the runner-up finishers to the elementary and secondary teachers of the year, who received their $5,000 check and official honors on Tuesday.

Elementary Teacher of the Year is Caitlin Dunnells, first grade teacher at Trimmier Elementary School. Secondary Teacher of the Year is Karen Pierce, science teacher at Nolan Middle School.

The other 40 campus-level KISD teachers of the year received $500 each.
