Discover the Magic of Theatre
-
Theatre instruction in Killeen ISD begins in middle school where students are exposed to the foundations for theatre appreciation and performance. Students develop self-awareness, empathy for others, and expressive communication skills through the exploration of theatrical practices. Middle school students may participate in a variety of extracurricular activities through our theatre program including Junior Thespians, theatre clubs, performances and the UIL Junior High One Act Play contest.
In high school, students begin their study with Theatre I, a general theatre course that teaches the basics of acting, technical theatre, and exposes students to a variety of classical and contemporary production styles. Following Theatre, I, students may specialize in performance-based (acting or musical theatre) or technical theatre classes and productions. Students may audition for varsity-level classes and productions. A variety of co-curricular and extracurricular activities are available to students at this level including Texas Thespians, UIL High School Once Act Play contest, UIL High School Theatrical Design Contest and a variety of plays and community-based performances.
Killeen ISD partners with local theatre company Central Texas Theatre at Vive Les Arts Societe to offer several opportunities for students to view live theatrical performances for elementary, middle and high school students.
