  • Visual arts instruction in Killeen ISD begins in middle school where students are exposed to a variety of media and techniques.  The focus in middle school art is to establish a foundation of knowledge and skills that will prepare students for further study in high school art or in life.  Middle school students can participate in a variety of extracurricular activities through our visual arts program including art clubs, the annual KISD Visual Art Exhibition, the Junior Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE), the annual KISD Holiday Card contest, the Lions International Peace Poster contest, and a variety of other art contests, shows and exhibitions.

    In high school, students begin their study with Art 1, a general art course that focuses on the Elements and Principles of Design. Following Art 1, students will begin a deeper and more focused study in either 2D painting, 2D drawing, or 3D sculpture and ceramics.  Students can also study Art History or AP Studio Art courses.  A robust series of extracurricular activities, contests, and shows at the local, regional, and state levels are offered for students including opportunities for scholarships and to earn Killeen ISD high school visual art students have been recognized at the local, regional and state level for their excellence in art making including the State Visual Art Scholastic Event, the Congressional Art Competition, the Temple College Art Competition and many others.  Students pursuing the study of visual art following graduation are recognized annually at the Killeen ISD Fine Arts Signing Day event.
