Shoemaker Superlatives lead KISD All-District 22-5A Softball Awards

Catcher visits with the team

Playing in a district with a state semifinalist can be a tough task, but the Killeen ISD teams in 22-5A took on the challenge and the proof is in the pudding –– or, more specific, the awards.

The tally on the all-district list for KISD’s squads after a hard-fought, successful season is two superlatives, six first-team selections, seven second-team picks and 10 honorable mentions.

Leading the way was Shoemaker –– which finished a program-best second in district while qualifying for the playoffs behind the first-place Lake Belton Lady Broncos, who wrapped up a trip to the UIL State Tournament last week in Austin –– and had two players earn superlative status.

Kylee Czaplicki was voted the utility player of the year while Jaden Crenshaw took home the award for catcher of the year.

Czaplicki posted a .385 batting average with team-highs of three home runs and 22 RBIs during district action. The sophomore started 10 of the Lady Grey Wolves 16 league games in the circle, recording 63 strikeouts in 49 innings pitched.

Pitcher delivers from the circleCrenshaw owned team-highs of .488 batting average and 21 hits over 14 district contests.

Shoemaker’s first-team honorees were outfielder Taylor McClinton, infielder Ori Samuelu-Pedro and utility player Kale Clawson.

Chaparral had a pair of first-team selections in outfielder Annie-Lue Kinere and infielder Madison Edwards, joining Killeen High designated player Jalise Campbell.

Lake Belton’s Shelby Schultz was voted the district’s overall most valuable player.
