Former KISD Football Players Sprinkled Throughout College Bowl Games

The college football season is the gift that keeps on giving –– especially to those keeping track of former Killeen ISD standouts.

 

Bowl season and the first 12-team College Football Playoff have arrived, and with them a number of chances to catch a glimpse of KISD alumni on TV.

 

The action kicks off Tuesday, Dec. 17 with the Frisco Bowl and runs through at least Jan. 1 and the CFB quarterfinals.

Tuesday, Dec. 17

Frisco Bowl, 8 p.m., ESPN

No. 25 Memphis vs. West Virginia

Ellison’s Jyaire Shorter (WR, Memphis)

Note: Shorter, a redshirt senior who also played at North Texas and Auburn, has 10 catches for 123 yards in 2024 .

 

Friday, Dec. 20

Cure Bowl, 11 a.m., ESPN

Ohio vs. Jacksonville State

Ellison’s Khamani Debrow (WR, Ohio)

Note: Debrow has appeared in nine games for the Bobcats this season, recording three tackles.

 

Saturday, Dec. 21

College Football Playoff –– first round –– 11 a.m., TNT

No. 10 SMU at No. 4 Penn State

Shoemaker’s Omari Evans (WR, Penn State)

Note: Evans this season has 19 catches for 360 yards and four touchdowns, including a 22-yard scoring grab in the Big 10 championship game Dec. 7 against Oregon.

 

College Football Playoff –– first round –– 3 p.m., TNT

No. 16 Clemson at No. 3 Texas

Harker Heights’ Jaydon Chatman (OL, Texas) and Dorian Black (DL, Texas)

Note: Chatman has appeared in a pair of games for the Longhorns this season.

 

Thursday, Dec. 26

68 Ventures Bowl, 8 p.m., ESPN

Arkansas State vs. Bowling Green

Harker Heights’ Deaubry Hood (DB, Arkansas State)

Note: Hood has appeared in four games this season, making two tackles, including one for loss.

 

Friday, Dec. 27

Liberty Bowl, 6 p.m., ESPN

Arkansas vs. Texas Tech

Shoemaker’s Malik Esquerra (DB, Texas Tech)

Note: Esquerra starred for the Grey Wolves on the football field and track, winning the Class 5A boys 110-meter state gold in May.

 

Independence Bowl, 8:15 p.m., ESPN

No. 22 Army vs. Marshall

Killeen High’s Ra'Quan Thompson (DL, Marshall)

Note: Thompson has appeared in all 13 games for the Thundering Herd, registering 20 tackles and two sacks.

 

Tuesday, Dec. 31

Texas Bowl, 2:30 p.m., ESPN

LSU vs. Baylor

Shoemaker’s Monaray Baldwin (WR, Baylor), Ellison’s Brendan Bett (DL, Baylor)

and Devonte Tezino (DL, Baylor)

Note: In 12 games this season, Baldwin has 23 receptions for 399 yards and five TDs. Tezino is credited with 21 tackles, including three for losses.

 

Friday, Jan. 3

First Responder Bowl, 3 p.m., ESPN

North Texas vs. Texas State

Harker Heights’ Kabriel Anderson-Dale (LB, North Texas) and

Ellison’s Damashja Harris (RB, North Texas)

Note: Anderson-Dale has two tackles this season. Harris has 195 yards and two TDs in three games played.

 

Also: Prior to their bowl games, Ellison's Matthew Moore (LB, North Texas), Harker Heights’ Terrance Carter (TE, Louisiana) and Shoemaker's Khamari Terrell (DB, Oregon) entered college football’s transfer portal. For Louisiana in 2024, Carter tied for the team lead in receptions with 48 and was second in yards with 689 and TDs with four. Carter on Tueday, Dec. 17, signed with Texas Tech. The redshirt sophomore was named first-team All-Sun Belt Conference at tight end. Terrell appeared in three contests this season for the top-ranked Ducks.
