Experienced Killeen ISD Leader Named Interim Principal of Chaparral High School

Killeen ISD Superintendent Dr. Jo Ann Fey announced Wednesday that longtime KISD leader Micah Wells has been appointed as interim principal of Chaparral High School.

Wells, who currently serves as the executive director for student success, will step into the role following the resignation of former principal Dr. Nino Etienne last week.

Wells brings extensive leadership experience, having previously served as principal at Robert M. Shoemaker High School and Rancier Middle School. Over his 16 years in the district, he has also been a middle school teacher, coach, assistant principal, and athletic director.

“Mr. Wells’ leadership, experience, and deep understanding of our district’s high expectations make him well-suited for this important role,” Fey said. “I appreciate his willingness to step into the position with energy and enthusiasm.”

With Wells leading the school in an interim capacity, the district is moving forward with its search for the next principal of Chaparral High School. The position has been posted internally and on external recruitment platforms. Once potential candidates are identified, a multi-round selection process will ensue that includes input from campus and district stakeholders.

Fey assured families that the district remains fully committed to supporting the Chaparral community during this transition, and Wells echoed the sentiment.

"Chaparral is a thriving community of students, families and educators,” Wells said. “I look forward to building relationships with the entire Bobcat family and supporting them during this leadership transition.”
