Texas History Comes Alive: Nolan Middle School's STEM Showcase Captivates Community

On Saturday, April 13th, 2024, the 7th-grade STEM classes at Nolan Middle School dazzled families and the community with their Project-Based Learning Showcase, "A Day in the Living Museum."

OCHThe event, hailed as an innovative and immersive experience, seamlessly integrated the realms of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Visitors were treated to a unique journey through Texas history as students transformed into various historical figures, standing as still as statues until brought to life with the push of a button.

Far more than a mere showcase, "A Day in the Living Museum" offered an interactive exploration of meticulously crafted displays, each one a testament to the dedication of Nolan's talented students who poured their efforts into STEM projects.

Mr. Michael Morales, the STEM History teacher, and Mrs. Justine Morales, the STEM Technology/Engineering teacher at Nolan, stressed the importance of instilling a passion for STEM from an early age. They see events like the "Day of the Living Museum" as pivotal in shaping the future of the community.

"We wanted the students to understand the challenges and obstacles faced by these historical figures in making their mark on history," explained Mr. Morales. "Many aspire to fame, but understanding the journey is crucial. By showcasing the humble beginnings of these figures, we empower our students to pursue their passions despite any obstacles."

Echoing Micheal's sentiments, Mrs. Morales added, "By learning that most come from a humble upbringing, we can show that any of our students could be featured in a future generation’s museum, as long as they strive for what they are passionate about, no matter the circumstances or obstacles that might arise. We want nothing but the best for our students. We will always be here, ready to lend a helping hand. Our goal is to support our students in reaching their full potential."

The event wouldn't have been possible without the support of key figures within the community. Nolan Middle School extends its heartfelt thanks to Principal Gawryszewski, Mayor Blomquist, and Council member Stacey Wilson for their unwavering support.

As Nolan Middle School looks forward, they anticipate many more years of inspiring minds and fostering a love for learning within their students and the community at large.
