Lady Knights Volleyball Team Pockets Tournament Title

The Harker Heights Lady Knights brought back the silver bracket championship from the 36-team Dayton tournament over the weekend, capping a busy and successful opening week of the high school volleyball season around Killeen ISD.

 

The Lady Knights went a combined 4-0 on Friday and Saturday to earn their team crown, and wrapped up their three-day tournament stay with five victories overall.

 

Senior Amaya Rich was voted the tournament MVP.

 

A block at the netReaching for the ballMeanwhile, the Killeen Lady Roos hosted the first installment of the Queen of the Court tournament, a three-day event that featured 14 teams. KHS delivered a third-place finish in the silver bracket, picking up wins over Lampasas, Waco Meyer and Munday along the way.

 

Elsewhere on the tournament circuit, the Chaparral Lady Bobcats placed 14th out of 32 teams at the stout Wimberley TexFest and the Ellison Lady Eagles won four times at the competetive LGE tournament in Georgetown.

 

All five KISD teams are again in action Tuesday, Aug. 20.

 

Killeen High has the lone home match on the slate, hosting Waco University.

 

Road matches Tuesday include Chaparral at Round Rock McNeil, Ellison at Groesbeck, Harker Heights at Academy and Shoemaker at Rogers.

 

This weekend offers up more tournament play CHS at the Bastrop tourney, EHS at the Pflugerville tourney, HHHS and KHS at the Gatesville tourney and SHS at the Rockdale tourney.
